Sandy, always a keen artist, started taking pictures at the age of 10 and has been snapping away ever since. Using the camera to record her travels, friends and family. Some years after having two children Sandy began to take photography more seriously. She started producing small greetings cards and framed prints to sell at county shows and craft events around Cumbria. At this time she gained her LRPS from the Royal Photographic Society, also winning a place on the BBC Countryfile exhibition and runner up in various photo magazine competitions.

Some of Sandy's work has been published on magazine covers and used for various advertising over the years. As well as taking pictures Sandy has written for The Cumbria magazine, The Dalesman, and a variety of specialist animal magazines. Sandy's interest is in nature and landscapes as well as anything she sees out and about that captures her interest. Traveling widely these days give Sandy the chance to photograph lots of far away places. Being also a glider pilot gives Sandy an even greater challenge, to take good pictures from the air. With a keen interest in Gliding Sandy is working towards her ARPS although the subject is by far the most challenging to date.

On the 9th October 2008 Sandy was proud to receive Associate membership of the Royal Photographic Society. The panel of 15 pictures were all gliding pictures air to air as well as on the ground. This is a great pleasure to Sandy as she is totally self taught.
